3D Geological Model of the Dunedin Urban Area
Belinda Smith Lyttle and Phil Glassey
GNS Science, New Zealand

This poster presents the state of progress of a 3D modelling project for the Dunedin urban area. The 3D model of the Dunedin urban area is part of a mapping programme initiated by GNS Science to compile and record current interpretations of geological and geomorphological data for urban centres around New Zealand.

The initial stage of the 3D model has been collecting and interpreting drill logs and excavation records. The drillhole data compiled for this project has spanned over 100 years of historic datums, superseded coordinate systems, archaic map grids, varied and inconsistent terminology, and ambiguous units of measure. The poster will touch on the methods we have used to solve problems and what progress we have made in harmonizing the data.

LeapfrogGeo software has been used for initial 3D modelling of selected data.
