| Geovisual Data Mining of Dolphin Space-time Trajectories Antoni Moore and Judy Rodda University of Otago, New Zealand
With the various and accomplished means to collect spatial data rapidly (coupled with precision and accuracy) we frequently find ourselves in a situation where there is simply too much information to effectively map. Devices such as GPS embedded in smartphones and similar tracking devices tiny enough to be attached to small animals are capable of collecting a staggering amount of spatiotemporal data in a short space of time. However, if the map contains hard-to-interpret clutter such as the dolphin tracks, then a lot of potentially valuable information is going to be lost.
This paper will report on the results of applying Adaptive Relative Motion (ARM) to the full dolphin dataset (more than 40 dolphins monitored in a southern NZ bay over a two-year period). |
